Over the last month, the team at MKC Architects have been developing a new model for education for an historic school in Boston, Massachusetts. Modern education today requires innovative curriculum-based learning environments where teaching spaces are viewed as a collective ensemble, where hands-on individual learning, project-based learning, and peer-to-peer learning are all supported. A hybrid-based learning model, our approach allows students spaces where they can engage learning with self-confidence and determination where above all else they are able to engage their instructors and peers with empathy and integrity.

In May 2023 MKC Architects President, Matthew Teismann, presented at the Vernacular Architecture Forum Annual Meeting in Plymouth Massachusetts. Teismann’s research, titled ‘Architecture Without Origins,’ enables architecture to address a broader discourse of what is gained or lost in the detraction of vernacular ways of life in lieu of modernization. The Vernacular Architecture Forum is the premier organization in North America studying ordinary buildings and landscapes. It was established in 1979 to promote appreciation and scholarship of vernacular structures. VAF is an interdisciplinary organization composed of scholars from many fields, including history, architectural history, geography, anthropology, sociology, landscape history, historic preservation, and material culture studies.

MKC Architects has an immediate opening for a Project Architect in Columbus, Ohio. We are seeking applicants with 5+ years professional experience and has a design & technical focus responsible for significant project activities. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving creativity while preparing documentation for delivering public and private commercial architectural projects. We seek a Project Architect who is organized, can provide technical direction, and leads multiple projects from conception to completion. He/she is responsible to ensure the design, specifications, and construction documents meet governing codes, regulations, company standards and standards of the industry.

Both Josh and Jessica have exhibited exceptional talent and commitment to the growth MKC Architects - their passion, excitement, and overall pursuit of architectural excellence is a primary reason for the consistent growth of the firm. As new Principals, Jessica and Josh will continue to pursue community engagement and urban integrartion through design.

President of MKC Architects, Matthew Teismann, was recently named the 2022 recipient of the AIA Ohio Foundation Charles J. Marr Citation. The Charles J. Marr Award was established to recognize individuals whose commitment to the profession is exemplary. Teismann was graciously nominated by former AIA Columbus President Nobert A. Peiker, FAIA. The award ceremony will take place on November 3rd at the AIA Ohio Member Recognition event with details below.

The Skilken House is a little discussed treasure designed by Architect Bart Prince for Steven Skilken that MKC was graciously invited to tour.

In late June, Jennifer Rufener and Maxwell Hentosh of MKC Architects traveled to Sandusky, Ohio to mentor students at Sandusky City Schools on makerspaces and architecture. This project introduced them to not only architecture but also urban design, planning, and landscape architecture.
