This project was necessitated by a 100-year flood in the downtown Shelby area that rendered the city’s existing municipal facilities uninhabitable. The new facilities were relocated away from the downtown area to land that is not in the flood plain. The new facility is divided into three areas a new police department, a new courts facility and a new jail.
The courts area includes a courtroom, jury room, attorney conference rooms, probation department offices and a judges chambers and bailiff and prosecutor offices.
The 19x27 control room is located in the center of the building, providing security for the entire building. The control room will feature camera systems that can monitor both inside and outside the building.
SHELBY JUSTICE CENTER
The Shelby Justice Center is made of two volumes of spaces anchored by the large public entrance and waiting area.
The entrance is delineated by a canopy and a full-height glazed wall. Brick and standing seam is used throughout to tie the building together.
Sharp crisp lines counterbalanced by the building's presence in the landscape combine for a complete design and scheme.
