This project involved the adaptive reuse of the former 44,000 sq. ft. Hawkins Market which had been closed for over five years. The project created a brand new shared-space complex that now houses a dozen mission-driven organizations.
Each organization in the new building has private offices and access to shared spaces such as mail room and break areas – allowing many to share back office resources and costs such as copiers, receptionists and other operational overhead. The new facility is a beautiful combination of humane and dignified spirit and a playfulness that encourages positive feeling in both the staff and the service beneficiaries. The design lends itself to improved productivity and efficiencies.
